Climateaudit

I’ve set up this blog at the suggestion of John A., of England, a computer consultant interested in climate change. I had posted some thoughts at http://www.climate2003.com, but it was difficult to post up comments on that layout. So John located a more appropriate host, converted past musings to blog layout and set up the framework extremely efficiently. Thank you to John. This is my first post to this layout, so I’m learning how the format works. I’m not sure how regularly how I will post; I’ll see. Ross McKitrick and I have been having a lot of hits on our respective websites and there has been a considerable amount of comment at realclimate.org, sci.environment, davidappell.com and UKWeatherworld, to name a few chatlines. So there is obviously some topical interest and some need for further explanations. I’ll try to pick up on some themes raised by posters. during the next while. In particular, I’ll try to post some comments on these topics (other suggestions welcome):
– the “Hockey Team”
– do the MBH98 errors “matter”? (They do.)
– a retrospective scorecard on MM03
– PC selection rules in MBH98
– the supposed MBH99 adjustment of the bristlecone pines

Thank you for the hard work you have put in over the last few years. I had always suspected that the Hockey Stick was a misrepresentation of climate history. It is nice to see these suspicions confirmed, though I feel the PCA argument is a little like eventually indicting Al Capone for tax evasion.

Like Jeff, I’m a grateful fan of your work. We’ve followed this issue extensively at the Debunkers forum.

Thanks, although we’re not setting forth our own view of climate history – merely arguing that you can’t obtain one from MBH98 (and thus MBH99, which splices onto MBH98). Steve Mc
