Craig Loehle has responded to various criticisms and issued a correction here, which he asked me to note. He states that:
the original and correction are pasted together. It has data, urls, a map, proper confidence intervals and hypothesis tests, and corrections to dating issues Gavin found
He states that “the shape of the curve didn’t change appreciably.”
In contrast, Mann et al 2007 continued to use incorrect locations for their precipitation series (the rain in Maine still continues to fall mainly in the Seine, while the rain in Bombay still continues to cause rainouts for the Phillies), and he continues to use his incorrectly calculated PC series.
It is remarkable to compare the alertness of the climate science community in this instance to the somnolent reviewing at the Journal of Climate for Mann et al 2007 – where the reviewers either didn’t bother checking whether Mann had fixed known errors or didn’t care. It is encouraging that Loehle responded promptly to the criticism by issuing a correction.
I am only posting a notice of the correction at this time, as I have not yet parsed through the details.
