IT’S A MUST SEE, 2 thumbs up.
I watched it twice and like it even better than the pre-Christmas one. It is one-sided, but like we haven’t heard the other side already. I’m sending this to my daughter’s geography teacher, who is making the class watch AIT (again).

Hard to make a program that looks at both side when one side are in hiding and no doubt the U.E.A. have told Jones to keep his mouth closed.

WOW — they put it so succinctly! This is terrific investigative journalism and presentation.
Why apparently no other news org’n has so distilled this key part of ClimateGate is also (gulp) “alarming!” It decisively and graphically rebuts any who selectively argue (paraphrasing), “why waste a perfectly good proxy (Briffa’s or any other’s that diverge in or slightly before the CWP)?”
Renews the call, “update the proxies!”
This isn’t nearly as damning or as judgmental as it could be (or probably should be). Yes, it clearly takes a skeptical view. But there was a lot of negative stuff about the hockey team that was available that they left out.

We need a transcript of this video. That requires the makers’ permission. The video is a great compilation of the story. Two thumbs up!
It is a clear exposition, albeit one-sided. All the Finnish scientists asked to comment came across as ‘sceptical’. It would have been more interesting if the programme makers also had included scientists defending the soundness of the IPCC report in light of the e-mails and documents from CRU.
An interesting aspect is this: Finland is a politically centrist social democracy. YLE is Finland’s national public service broadcasting company which is state owned and financed by a compulsory television tax (http://yle.fi/fbc/thisisyle.shtml). So this is truly mainstream media in a politically moderate (leftist/liberal in US terms) country.
I would love to see a similar coverage in my native Norway, but currently the content of climategate documents seems ‘untouchable’ for the main stream media here.
Great presentation, I love how they are called the hockey team! One question, I thought the hockey stick graph was debunked using random data to come up with the same hockey stick graph, not heat islands caused by city growth.

Associated Press coverage raises eyebrows
The first scientist quoted in the article, Mark Frankel, is director of scientific freedom, responsibility and law at the American Association for the Advancement of Science. AP quotes him as concluding that there is, “no evidence of falsification or fabrication of data, although concerns could be raised about some instances of very ‘generous interpretations.'” While the article mentions that former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and some Republican lawmakers are calling for independent investigations, AP doesn’t note the views of the scientists they interviewed.
When The Washington Times talked to Mr. Frankel, the scientist gave a quite different impression…
Arizona State University professor Dan Sarewitz is quoted by AP as saying, “This is normal science politics, but on the extreme end, though still within bounds.” However, Mr. Sarewitz wasn’t speaking about the validity of the climate science; he was discussing his belief that politics infects how most scientific research is conducted. While AP used the quote to suggest that there was nothing terribly wrong that had been revealed in Climategate, Mr. Sarewitz was trying to issue a warning that politics infects too much science and that reporters, politicians and the public are naive about that reality. ..
The third scientist interviewed by AP, professor Gerald North at Texas A&M University, joined Mr. Frankel and Mr. Sarewitz in hoping that climate data would be more readily shared in the future. He told us he also thinks it is important that investigations proceed at the two universities.
The Washington Times tried to raise these issues with the reporters and editors involved, but Jack Stokes, AP’s manager of media relations, said that none of the five reporters who worked on the article nor their editors had time to answer questions.
If AP refuses to explain how it could have given readers across the planet such a distorted view of Climategate, maybe an explanation can be found buried in the article itself. One of the reporters, Seth Borenstein, the AP science reporter who writes on global warming and who is the lead author on the piece, is part of the Climategate story himself….ETC

Says it all.
This coverage is very good. I would not say that it is perfect or 100% complete, however it is accurate enough to present what these emails show to people who have not been following the debate for the last 5+ years.
It is to the credit of Finnish television that they did not assume that the emails were hacked. They stated correctly that they might have been either leaked or hacked. Since there has been no trail, charges filed, or even an arrest, it is a totally unwarranted assumption for so many news media types to state that the emails were hacked. The Finns got it right. We do not know at this point.
Many news sources are following the New York Times in assuming that the emails and docs were hacked and therefore should not be reprinted. This is a ridiculous argument. Although they can not prove any hacking occurred, it is sufficient to assume that they were hacked so that they can create an excuse not to cover the story.

I’m a little confused about how they claim you were involved in the spread of the data. It says you had the info for several days and then started posting it here and there. But the last e-mail in the .zip is only a couple of days before it showed up on RC and AC. What exactly is the timing of what happened with respect to you?

Just to let you guys know. YLE hasn’t covered the climategate any more than any other MSM out there. From what I’ve seen this documentary, done by MOT crew, is the only program so far (from what I know..) presenting the other side the move-a-long-nothing-to-see sign. The MOT crew is not in such a good reputation around here and certainly, despite the topic, they aren’t taken as seriously as should, making this one no exception. For instance, it was critisized by their fellow “green” science editor as beeing “plain populistic crap.”

It seems that there is a one word that comes to mind whenever certain climate scientists run smack into facts. That word is “crap.”
Perhaps they are projecting.
I thought this was a masterful presentation! It distilled the pertinent issues and characters for a lay public. Any more than this would be too hard to digest for the mass public. I REALLY enjoyed this report!!!!

Lack of Media Coverage
Can I second JRR’s opinion that it is sad that people in the English speaking world have to tune into Finnish and Russian broadcasts to view a documentary on the climategate episode.
What would George Orwell have made of it?
Thanks to the Finnish broadcasters for making the programme. I particularly enjoyed the short explanation about the influence of UHI on Russian and Scandinavian temperature data. Perhaps the most important point made in the film.
Are there any plans to distribute the programme globally? In the UK channel 5 might consider showing it. However, I expect the BBC et al are already producing their counter-blast.

“Crap” is a word used in science to describe something unwanted and bothersome you wish would simply go away. Somthing that you just don’t want to deal with and you’d like to hide somehow.
You’ll find it in the CRU Dictionary of Science along with “trick”.

Thank you for this firstrate piece of broadcasting. You have done the world a service. It is the best presentation of Climategate that I have seen. Yesterday I typed up the English subtitles before finding them online; it would be very nice to have the rest translated to the same standard, particularly since you bring out Russian issues in a very important way IMO.

Conclusion: I am ashamed of the climate scientists of RealClimate. They are basically political activists.
I agree with your conclusion and this is probably OT – snip away if so, but I think the day is fast approaching when someone will compare timestamps and quantity of posts by members of the team operating realclimate, vs. what they’re (supposed to be) doing and being paid for wrt their (mostly taxpayer funded) day jobs. Just a guess though.

Many real subtitles don´t appears in the english transcript document.

This documentary should be sent to the BBC who have adopted a disgracefully one-sided approach to ‘global warming’; As have Channel Four and virtually all other media outlets in the UK.
When Climategate happened, they (BBC, ITN, Channel Four, Sky etc) were more interested in how the emails could have been hacked in to, rather than seriously looking at their content. After the day it happened, little or nothing has been said or done since. So much for investigative journalism (excepting Christopher Booker in The Daily Telegraph, who has been a lone voice questioning the so called ‘consensus’.
Well done Finnish TV.
Very interesting I was alwayss skeptical of the science since there was no consensus on human caused climate change. I hope the investigation brings everything into the open. Thank you Steve for all your hard work and Mr. McKitrick.

One thing I would have liked to see included was the conclusions of the Wegman Report. There have been a number of youtube videos out lately that suggest that the Wegman Report actually supported Man’s conclusions, even though they found some errors in his methods. The final sentence from executive summary of the report states:
“Overall, our committee believes that Mann’s assessments that the decade of the 1990s was the hottest decade of the millennium and that 1998 was the hottest year of the millennium cannot be supported by his analysis.”
Looks pretty clear to me.
Excellent videos! The climate change “crisis” is not the result of real science but rather a conspiracy of political science. It is a bigger scam than the Bernie Madoff ponzi scheme. What a coincidence it is that most believers and promoters of the “crisis” are socialist leaning and the solutions they propose include new taxes and less freedom. I’m a Bail Bondsman and if any of these clowns finally get exposed and arrested, I would never bail them out of jail.
