Away to Thailand to visit one of my sons. Will be away for a couple of weeks but will be online most of the time. 24-hour flight tomorrow. We’ll probably be the only people on the leg to Thailand with a snowboard – presumably not usual inbound luggage. For our daughter who’s visiting there for Christmas as well. She’s planning to go snowboarding in India.

It’s unseasonably cold here as well – all the Bangkok locals are wearing beanies and thick jackets. I’d say it was no more than 18C early this morning, though the Met Office said 22C. Brrrrr!

This is how rumors start… imagine if there’s just one climate-aware customary officer in the USA or Thailand, they’ll see Steve McIntyre (no less!) going to Southeast Asia with a snowboard, they’ll think this is going to be an epic La Nina… and wonder if the divergent tree rings were a warning not a problem 🙂

Never worked for me. I’ve found that walking around after landing and then having a couple of beers in the late afternnon standing up worked the best. In Thailand there are surely more exotic things to drink that will work just as well.
The first time I went to Europe, I tried to beat jet lag by adjusting my schedule by 1 hour a day for 5 days, so I would have only 1 hour left when I arrived.
But when I arrived, I found that I had adjusted in the wrong direction, so that I was 11 hours off. 😦
Since then, I just don’t worry about it!
All very fine and well deserved, but you haven’t said how you’re going to offset your carbon usage!

I have to shovel snow and drive 25 mph on unplowed streets until probably April.
Too late now for the outbound leg but something to think about for return trip or in the future. The Bose noise canceling head phones do work and leave me and family members in a much better state after long flights, e.g., Left Coast to East Coast or to Europe. They do cost more but IMO are worth the delta. And no, no financial or other interest in Bose, just a very satisfied customer.
