I received the following notice today:
On Thursday, 13 December AGU will hold an event at the Fall Meeting to honor those AGU members who participated in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Winning the Nobel Peace Prize is a wonderful recognition of the importance of their hard work, and AGU would like to congratulate those scientists. This tribute to our members will take place from 1815h-1930h in Moscone South, Room 104, before the Town Hall meetings. It will be open to all meeting registrants, but because seating is limited, we are asking that interested members register in advance for this event. If you were a participant in the IPCC, please indicate that when registering. Please click on the link below to register, we ask that you do so no later than 1700 UT on 6 December.
That would include me :).

Peace prize too you?
Here in norway its starting to sink in that they have given the Nobel’s peace prize
to an activist(Al Armand Gore) that is mainly against everything that Alfred Nobel
stands for(todays society build on technological and economic development).
Another conference or event, another occasion to increase the carbon footprint of the IPCC.
You need to post a small “peace prize winner” logo next to the “best blog” logo. Make them really notice your efforts to further the science.
I’ll expect a full status report!
(Oh er, I’m a different John V than the one from opentemp.org. I think I’ll use John V2 in future.)
I can’t coment due to having just read posts on
another blog that is from the alarmist and they have
for all intents and purposes taken over and ruined a
good site. ( the usual he is a known denier)…
I think this is a very value based site and is good
for all to read. I just wish I was better educated
in the area of statistics.
keep up the good work!!!!
Bill
SteveMc.
I’ll buy you dinner if you come to town. Maybe we can get SSadlov to join up as well
Steve are you going to AGU this year?
Steve: Yes, from Dec 10-14.
I wonder if anyone from the High Court was invited?
CA party in san fran!!!
It’s a long haul for you Anthony. Sadlov may be closer, still prolly a couple hours
away.
We eat here.

It’s a short cab hop from moscone. I’m sure Sadlov, bohemian et al, knows the neighborhood.

Moscone South, eh? Some good eats near there are along the Embarcadero and around the side streets off the first couple blocks of Mission. Also, a W hotel, kitty corner, with the inevitable trendy bar. As for me, dunno. I think we are actually to be in Reno – Truckee then, would need to double check.
Congrats Steve, I just knew your work were due for recognition by the masses! 🙂
You should bring a hockey stick with “MBH98” on it.
Re6 Yes I’d chip in too, and drive down. After working with you all for months I’d sure like to say hello.
Nice place on columbus I can recommend

Every morning you walk to mamas for breakfast.

Best ever.
RE 11. That’s a nice place ( psst dont mention the stuff the other side
of columbus )
A broken hockey stick. The Nobel Prize bug should be right up there with the best science blog bug. If only to make the point that there is diversity of opinion in the “2500 leading Scientists.”
News article about one of the other winners
Steve, you have my email address. I’m changing it from my anonymous one to my business one. I used to drive a taxi in San Francisco. You cannot find knows this town better than I.
The Stinking Rose is an excellent suggestion as is Vesuvio. I spent many an evening hanging with other drivers there 20 years ago and the place has not changed.
I offer any concierge service, or advice you may need on this trip and would also be honored to cover a meal.
I know several restaurant owners and can offer to have them take special care of you as well.
Feel free to have Steve Mosher contact me and qualify me as necessary.
I do not need to be included in your busy schedule, but I am always willing to be an information resource.
Someone, someone who knows this town better than I.
#16: ah yes, the doda birds, a species that will never become endangered, much less extinct, in S.F.
I’m a VIP member of several of those but I don’t take married men without either express permission from their wives, or unless the wife comes along.
jeez, agreed.
RE 22. Duke. Very nice work. I’m normally incurious about who people are, but thought I should
click on your name. kinda related, Long ago I wanted to build a straw bale house, but the hoops to jump through
… argg. Anyway, very nice work.
Thank you, Steve Mosh, 23: I know of hoops. On this project, it was the grading plan, believe it or not. 6 month delay.
As for straw bale, I’m dubious. In the future, if you want to do something unorthodox but effective, try Insulated Concrete Forms (ICFs). Quite a bit of that going on around here.
RE 26. ICFs I will definately look into it. I wanted to go a non traditional
route.. I loved the idea of something subterrainian, or stone, or timber.. organic…
A cave for moshpit would be cool. with lots of Opals!
2*4 standard construction was not high on the list.
Mosh: we are way OT on this. Shoot me an email if you have any questions. I’ve had an article published on the durability and longevity of our buildings that might interest you.
Mosh,
Agreed about married men?
or
Agreed you will contact me?
Wish I could knock up some “I reviewed the IPCC reports and all I got was a lousy Nobel Peace Prize” t-shirts in time for the backslapping to begin.
RE: #30 – Got a few screen printers here in NoCal. If someone did the art and put up some funds, it could be done.
RE 29. Both. SteveMc has your email right? Anthony and I will coordinate.
Anthony has my email if you want to contact me directly he can supply it.
I suggest we pick a date and hook up at Moscone and then cab from there to North Beach.
What I think would be a nice one would be a Hockey shirt with a broken Hockey stick in flames with the team name of “Kyoto Flames” and “McIntyre and McKitrick” across the back.
RE: 19
Declare victory and move on. I love it. He’s right about one thing, though, this is no longer about science. It’s about politics.
RE:32. I’m available. I may book us a Towncar for so we don’t have to fight for cabs at Moscone.
I just sent an email to info over at surfacestations with my contact info.
RE:31, How many shirts? I can have art made up and handle here. Funds are a minor problem, but I can probably take one for the “other” team. Believe it or not, a lot of my money is in Real Estate development, and it would be an understatement to say that my positive cash flow has temporarily seized up a bit.
Steve Mosher #27
Still off thread, but let’s hope Steve Mc is feeling indulgent, one idea that has been used in several places is earth filled sandbags
http://www.hackvan.com/pub/stig/articles/earth-architecture–sandbag-superadobe-superblock-construction.htm
Is one site. There are many others.
Thanks guys, it was an enjoyable dinner. Hey mosh, turns out the waitress is Brazilian and I speak Portuguese (um poco). You are soooooo far behind now.
Many greeting from Poland.
