I’m sorry to learn that Jeff Id has suspended operation of his blog in order to properly carry out his obligations to his business and his young family.
Jeff introduced himself to Climate Audit soon after he started his blog (here)>. He began with a variety of interesting technical analyses of Mann et al 2008 – technical analyses of the type that interested me and CA readers here. My first mention of the blog was here.
I was a regular reader and will miss my daily visit to his blog. Jeff plans to stay in touch.
I don’t know how he managed to balance the responsibilities of a business and a young family with blog activity as long as he did, but am grateful that he managed as long as he did.

Jeff to the U.P.
Adventure is the Big Game.
Bang, bang, in the bag.

I will try to fill in the gap of being an amateur sleuth on environmental matters that Jeff Id has left. My completed blog volume called The Oil ConunDRUM is available at http://TheOilConundrum.com. We need lots more amateur scientists and statisticians out there perturbing the BAU.
Thanks, Steve, for this posting.
Jeff will be sorely missed.
With kind regards,
Oliver K. Manuel
Personal tastes and interest vary of course, but there have been 5 blogs that I have bookmarked. I try to read most of them each day. They are Climate Audit, the Air Vent, Watts Up With That, Bishop Hill and Warwick Hughes’ Errors in IPCC Climate Science. (This is not discriminatory against other fine sites, like Steven Mosher’s, but some make my brain ache, through wishing I could contribute better).
I’ve emailed Jeff privately to say how much he will be missed – but I think we’ll see him posting without much of a pause.
Many others like me must hope most sincerely that the individuals behind these blogs are able to continue, demanding as it is, because it takes a rare combination of skills to succeed. It is becoming more evident as time passes that your joint efforts have already achieved a place in the history of science.
Geoff, “It is becoming more evident as time passes that your joint efforts have already achieved a place in the history of science.”
Boy, that’s for sure. Well-said.
RIP Jeff Id, you will be remembered.
Woe! Slow down, Ale!!
All he’s doing is taking a rest and re-establishing his priorities. He’s not gone off to play ice hockey on the great rink in the sky.
Dear Jeff
Have a good break.
A change is as good a rest and I look forward to your erudite postings here and at Watts.
Take care
Thanks Steve and everyone. The response to my career change has been a bit overwhelming.
It is appreciated.
Is this the first time that the name of a commenter and the name of the post are identical on Climate Audit? I think we should be told. 🙂
(I already said how much I appreciate Jeff and tAV, shortly after he announced his retirement on WUWT. But it’s good to see the statistical climate blogs, as Steve called them at the height of the Yamal controversy, looking out for their own.)
Look at the 2nd link in the head post 🙂
“…[T]hose who believe they know believe for unknowable reasons.”
– Jeff ID.
That pretty well sums it up.
Thanks, Jeff.
As someone who has considered blogging but decided that my life did not need that kind of hell at present, I have nothing but best wishes for Jeff and his pursuits at this time in his life. Family must always be an important factor. I espressed my sadness at his suspension of blogging directly at his site. I feel encouraged by Steve: “Jeff plans to stay in touch.” His credentials have been well established.
Thanks to Steve and others who have the grit plus excellence of mind to make blogging a successful endeavor — and to champion the scientific method. I look forward to comments and posts by Jeff Id.
taV was one of the websites where the FOI-files were leaked. Nuff said.
Thanks Jeff,
Yours was one of the few blogs I have read each day.
I look forward to your posts on CA and WUWT.
Getting your life balance is essential, particularly if you have a family.
Responsibility to yuor family comes before responsibility to the world.
That’s why I use a cover name, although some do not like it.
Best regards.
Dan.
Jeff’s blog was excellent. Can we give him a musical send-off?
Steve: this would seem more appropriate for Nigel Lawson than Jeff Id. I suspect that Jeff is aging rock-and-roll vintage – pre-hip hop. Aerosmith, Pink Floyd rather than Jay-Z or Notorious B.I.G on one side or Beatles/Bob Dylan on the other. But just a guess.
Perhaps this:

Just a little fun. It is quite a change to stop blogging but there isn’t much choice now.
Re: dearieme (Jan 24 06:25),
A musical send-off for tAV should be:
– interesting,
– technical,
– and controversial (some folks really dislike the facial expressions of Steve Howe, but not I)
So here is my suggestion:
Thankfully, the glass is half full, because of blogs like CA and tAV. Thanks again Jeff.
The preservation of integrity of academia and society comes with a price. Jeff Id paid that bill for us all, which is a moral debt which would encourage me to do something following his example.
Jeff, in his early ’40s?
Funny how Steig chosed to post his rebuttal of O’Donnell at RC after the Air Vent closed…
It ain’t easy, folks. Love ya, Jeff.
Jeff Id, one of the Pantheon.
