Articles relating to the Mann, Bradley and Hughes 1998 reconstruction of past climate

A scorecard on MM03

Our analysis in our two recent articles, in GRL and E&E, has moved well beyond the points made in MM03, while building on them. Mann has recently claimed that all of our claims in MM03 have been discredited. I thought it would be interesting to look back at the claims in MM03 and see how […]

The 5 Censored PCs

The first 5 PC series from the CENSORED directory at Mann’s FTP site are displayed.

Cook et al. [2004]

What is ironic in Mann’s citation of Cook as authority that paleoclimatologists need not provide a range of verification statistics is that Cook et al. [2004] actually provide a suite of verification statistics, headed by the R2 statistic, which Mann et al. now object to.

New research published on MBH98

We (McIntyre and McKitrick) are profiled in the cover story of the Feb. 1, 2005 edition of Natuurwetenschap & Techniek (NWT), a prominent European science magazine (both Dutch and English versions at http://www.natutech.nl ). Spot the real Hockey Stick…

Here is a postscript version and pdf version of the graphic showing simulated PC1s with a hockeystick shape and the MBH98 Northern Hemisphere reconstruction. Can you find the “real” MBH98 hockeystick?

Rutherford et al [Journal of Climate 2004]

Prior to its startup I had some notes at a prior website http://www.climate2003.com, which John A transferred to the CA blog at its start-up.] The Dec. 4 post “False Claims” refers to an article by Mann and his associates [Rutherford et al. 2004], supposedly discrediting our work. […]

Robustness

[Climate Audit was started on Jan 31, 2005. Prior to its startup I had some notes at a prior website http://www.climate2003.com, which John A transferred to the CA blog at its start-up.] If 2 PCs are used in the AD1400 North American network along with conventional (centered) PC calculations, we argued in our Nature submissions […]

Hasn’t Mann’s data "always" been available?

[Climate Audit was started on Jan 31, 2005. Prior to its startup I had some notes at a prior website http://www.climate2003.com, which John A transferred to the CA blog at its start-up.] There’s a difference between the underlying proxy data, source code and supporting calculations, and the situation is different for each category. Proxy data: […]
